Flying into KATL "Atlanta"...busiest airport in the world!

7/6/2011

One of my friends whom just bought his Cirrus has a company up in Atlanta that he travels to for business, he was traveling back and forth via the airlines...but now that he has the Cirrus...its time to take his own airplane!  Turns out the closest airport to his business is "KATL"...so what airport did he want to fly into?!?! KATL of course! :-) Well, I think most people would have been intimidated with this...but I've been flying for a while now so just thought of it as a "fun" trip!  Turns out it was quite easy getting into Atlanta, only issues were some minor vectoring and also approach asked us what was our fastest forward speed we could keep on final?...hmm...150kts as our cruise we said...and they said to keep that up, so we could keep up with the jet traffic...so that was interesting...but it all worked out.  We landed on 26R, most northern runway so taxied right into the FBO off the runway, pretty easy!

Well, then it was time to leave.  I had been talking to one of my friends that day whom is a corporate pilot and when I told him we were planning on leaving around 6pm he said that was "rush hour traffic"...hmm...how bad could it be? He said he had waited 45minutes last time he was at KATL!  Well, lets just say my friend and I got 30 minutes of taxi time leaving KATL...we were located at the FBO at the North end of the airport and we were taxied across "4" runways all the way to runway 28...the runway on the south side of the field!! lol

So, turned out to be a fun trip!  Next time, we have decided that one of the smaller airports close to Atlanta will be a good idea...it will be much quicker for us to get in and out of the smaller airport...5-10 minutes more of travel time on the ground won't be that bad.

In any case, it was a fun trip!  ...and now I have conquered the busiest airport in the world!
